The terrific trio that is Brian Jackson, Ali Shaheed Muhammad & Adrian Younge drop a new single titled 'Young Muhammad', which is their second release this year, following on from the otherworldly sounds of 'Ethiopian Sunshower'. 'Young Muhammad' has the coolest groove we've heard in a long time. The bass walks with self-assurance, finding the perfect pocket to sit within the beat (which is packed full of impulsive drum-breaks). Electric guitar tried to follow the bass, but melodically finds itself situated in a parallel universe; in the sweet spot of jazzy dissonance. Piano and horns enter later on in the track, playing a combination of drones and accidental timings which elevate the song to freedom, but the musicians manage to hold the essence of the original groove, making for a spectacular evolution.
